How do I make a pause in the speech?

Postby virtualm » Thu Feb 15, 2007 11:35 am

Hello everyone
My question is, how can I put a pause of (x amount of time) in before Swift Talker reads the rest of the sentence? It would be like hearing one side of a conversation, someone talking then stops to hear the other persons answer then continues. Any help would great.

And I must say that Callie is a great voice everyone who worked on her gets a pat on the back from me :D

Thanks for all you're help.

Postby hunter110783 » Sat Mar 03, 2007 9:33 am

Hi everyone,
I have a similar question. Does anyone know how to pause in the synchronous mode of cepstral. That is while it is speakin out something , is it possible to pause it in between.

Thanks & Regards

To insert a pause you can use SSML (http://www.cepstral.com/cgi-bin/support?page=ssml). Specifically insert the following SSML code in your text:

1. Inserting silence / pauses:

"This is not <break strength='none' /> a pause."
"This is a <break strength='x-weak' /> phrase break."
"This is a <break strength='weak' /> phrase break."
"This is a <break strength='medium' /> sentence break."
"This is a <break strength='strong' /> paragraph break."
"This is a <break strength='x-strong' /> paragraph break."
"This is a <break time='3s' /> three second pause."
"This is a <break time='4500ms' /> 4.5 second pause."
"This is a <break /> sentence break."

For pausing while a voice is speaking, here is one possibility:

Use Tex-Edit Plus (this assumes you have a Mac). While the voice is speaking press
[ctrl]+[command]+[, (comma)] to pause. Press the same combination to resume.

I am trying this software, which I find extremely interesting. For the use I am interested in (text comparison) the possibility of manual pausing while the voice is speaking if a necessary feature. Is there a combination of keys available on Linux? Maybe linking "swift" to kttsd or similar interfaces?

Thanks a lot,
