apostrophes

Postby marty » Wed Aug 29, 2007 3:49 pm

Hi,

i'm using Callie 4.2 .... swifttalker handles apostrophes OK, but in my application (written in Authorware 7), i'm getting unusual pronunciations. e.g. "didn't" sounds like "didentee".

i import test from a '.txt' file - do i perhaps need another file format?

has anyone dealt with this before?

thanks,
Marty

Perhaps create a custom lexicon for special situations as this. The file format isn't going to make a diffence. It's how the engine is parsing the data. The other thing you could do would be to build a custom parser before you pass the data to Swift and change "didn't" to "did not" or "didnt" with the latter having a custom lexicon.

There seems to be two different types of apostrophes for simple text.

I've shown the difference in the following post. Try these two examples out and see if there is a difference.
